Could particle accelerators be used to destroy nuclear waste?

It would be the most expensive way to break radioactive waste ever but yes. You would have to do it by a few atoms or a single atom at a time, and that would take years and the amount of energy needed would create more nuclear waste (uming a nuclear power plant provides the energy)
