Could he be bipolar or just irresponsible?

It's possible or he could also have a borderline personality disorder. Both are quite similar. If he has very deep depressions, and I mean laying in bed for days, not eating etc : it would be most likely a depressive disorder like bipolar that he may have. Just whining about feeling down does not count.
